Wegener’s strategic policy has for several years been distinguished by its constant focus on the group’s core activities and on reinforcing their strength. These core operations consist of:

Newspaper activities (regional dailies, free door-to-door newspapers and weeklies, and the associated graphic production operations)

Multimedia activities (primarily online, complementing the newspaper activities)
Group policy aimed at achieving Wegener’s strategic objectives is framed by several fundamental priorities:
- Capitalize on the benefits of growth in scale to enhance the return from the group’s position in the market for dailies and free door-to-door newspapers, as well as to strengthen the group’s overall competitiveness.
- Concentrate on efficiency to achieve ongoing reduction in the unit costs of products.
- Mobilize knowledge and expertise both to enhance the effectiveness and quality of existing processes and to foster innovative developments.
- Explore the possibilities for expanding the newspaper activities.
- Invest in publishing online information (e-media) in the Netherlands on a regional and local basis
Value creation is a central element of the group’s strategic policy. All of Wegener’s activities, both existing and new ones, are assessed against this criterion. It implies growth in group activities and improved efficiency in existing operating processes, in part benefiting from the application of new information and communication technologies.
